About the SBDC

Overview

The Alabama SBDC at UNA is a member of the Alabama SBDC Network, which began operating in 1980, and the SBDC at UNA has been a part of the Network since its beginning.   The Alabama SBDC Network is an accredited member of America’s Small Business Development Centers.      Small Business Development Centers’ (SBDCs) advise and train business people in a wide variety of business topics and provide comprehensive information services and access to experts in many fields.  Advising services are provided at no cost to small business owners and those interested in starting a business.   SBDCs develop and maintain partnerships among community organizations and local, state and federal agencies, providing a focal point for a broad network of public and private resources at the community level.  SBDC partnership programs and activities serving small businesses have contributed significantly to economic growth in Alabama and across the nation.

The Alabama SBDC Network specializes in one-on-one business advising and educational training for small businesses.     The Alabama SBDC at UNA serves a nine-county area in northwest Alabama – Colbert, Lauderdale, Franklin, Lawrence, Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston and Walker Counties.      Advisors are available to meet in the SBDC office at UNA in Florence, at your place of business or the SBDC has resource partners in each county and can meet you in the county where you are located.
